Green Collar Job Corps
Green Collar Job Corps provides training for disadvantaged youth in workforce opportunities that improve the environmental quality of their neighborhood. The participants receive a training stipend based on performance in all areas of work readiness. The green Job training currently includes all aspects of organic urban farming, lawn care for elderly and/or disabled neighbors, and hosting the West Central Marketplace.
Twenty teenagers from the West Central and Emerson-Garfield neighborhoods make up this summer’s Green Collar Job
Corps. Each member is gaining critical skills and experience by learning how to garden sustainably, run a lawn care business, and run our farmer’s market program.
Green Collar Job Corps youth receive training that is not available anywhere else in the city. They also receive specialized training from local experts in smart money management, bike safety, pruning, composting, weed identification and writing skills.
